(Pbb Press association,) London. January 10. The "Chamber of Commerce Journal" advocates the granting of a constitution to Western Australia on condition that the colony is thrown open to emigrants. The journal points out that 150 millions of money has been spent m Great Britain oq paupe? relief m fifteen years, and urges that the State should provide ! for the emigration of 100,000 people \ every year. A protest has been received from Jamaica against the appointment of Sir Henry Blake as Governor, on the ground, that having bean objeoted to by the Government of Queensland, he is not a fit person for the appointment of Jamaica. Lord Knutsford is paying no heed to the protest, London, January 11. Lord Brassey, speaking at Ha^iqgc}, said it would hecome necessary before long to concede to the colonies a share m Imperial politics, especially m the

' In his speech at Wymondham, Lord Eimberley quoted a statement m " Truth " that the Earl of Kintore was a novice, appointed to South Australia for the purposes of retrenchment, and accepted by the colony for the Bake of h.is title. Sir Henry Blake, a trained servant of the Crown, but self-made and untitled, had been rejected by Queensland, It was evidently intended tp recruit Australian Governors from the peerage, and the Government had only failed to send a Peer to Queensland out of sympathy with Bir Henry Blake. London, January 12. The Admiralty have countermanded the order of H.M.S. Nymph being placed on the Australian station, and she will shortly leave to join the Pacific Squadron^ At tho annual meeting of the New Zealand Land Mortgage Company, Sir E. Stafford, one of the Dirpctors, deprecated the proposal for capital introduced into the oolony being diverted for investment m Australia.
