Potatoes are scarce, sound samples are quoted £i 5 ; inferior sorts much less ; onions, £15. Butter, local made, Is 3d, with market quiet and downward tendency ; best imported, lid to la ; separator butter, Is Id to Is 2d ; the market is glutted. Cheese, 6d to 7£d, declining ; bacon, 9d to 9£d ; Cape barley, 3s 9d to 3s lid ; New Zealand chaff, £6. Ad&iaids, January 3. The wheat market is quiet, but prices remain firm. For farmers' lots at Port Adelaide 4s 6d is realised ; for outports, 4s 2d to 4s 3d ; New Zealand oats, 4s 6d to 4s 8d ; new potatoes, £12 ; Tasmanian 1888 hops, 2s 3£d per Ib. Welboubnb, Janairy 3. New wheat, 4s 7£d ; barley, malting, 5s 9d to 6s ; Cape barley, 3s 6d ; oats, 3s 9d to 8s lOd ; New Zealand peas, 4s. Potatoes are commanding famine prices. In Ballarat £22 per ton is asked. london. January 1. The series of wool sales at Antwerp will probably open on January 14th. London. Jaaaary 2. The " Standard " states that the Copper Syndicate control 150,000 tons, which have absorbed twelve millions of capital,- and the interest on this amounts to something like half a million per annum, and stocks are still growing, as imports from Chili, America, and Australia are increasing. The " Standard" ia of opinion that a crisis is imminent.
