From 1876 to 1881 ho .acted as lecturer la Hiatury and Political Economy under the University of Cambridge. Local Lcoturos Syndicate. Ho delivered lectures In varloua parts of England— -one of tbese appointments being at the Crystal Palaoa. In 1881 he acted as leoturerln History at Cambridge Unlverefiy under the Board of Hiatorloal Studies, He wai called to the English Bar In 1881, and shortly after he was elected Professor of English at Otago University.
