SERIOUS CHARGE.

In the Resident Magistrate's Court this morning before Major .Steward, JP. Bartholomew Kane was oharged with bavin; stabbed one Peter Oopeland with a knife on Sunday night. Sergeant Felton said that he should have to apply for a remand as Oopeland was In the hospital and unable to appear. The circumstances were these. A man named Peter Oopeland had been stabbed on Sunday night In three plaoes on the outside of the thigh, ia the arm, aud on tbe back of the head, and bad accused the prisoner Kane of having icflioted the Injuries. He (Sergeant Felton) had been to Kane's plaoe aud found a pool of blood outside the door, and had found blood all along the traok from this place to the place where Oopeland had lain down. Prisoner said that he had never seen Oopeland. The Magistrate said the evidenoe was quite sufficient to justify a remand, and, In reply to prisoner, tatd that if he desired to be balled it wculd bave to be In a substantia! amount. Bill would be aooepted himself In £100, and two sureties of £50 each. Prisoner : In that oase I shall spend Christmas In gsol.
