A NARROW ESCAPE

At the Henui Ironworks tliia morning, a man named Thomas Busden and his eon, Frank' Rasdeo, engaged upon the works as charooal turners, were nearly suffocated with poisonous gas from the charcoal kito. ' It appears that the kiln was charged for , the fifat time a few weeks ago, and, as tho ' charging was of an experimental nature, attempts have been made from time to time to ssoortain if the charooal had been proporly burned; A great quantity of j water bal been poured on the kiln to oool ' it, and this morning Thomas Bueden, who i is a bricklayer by trade, went down a hole at the top of tho kiln to inspect. He got down with a rope attached, and almost immediately lie entered the kiln he became unconscious, through the inhalation of carbonic acid gas. The son followed to rescue the father, but he alao became bfocted with tho ga«-, He was promptly pulled out by the hair of hie head by one of the employees. Ihe father was afterwardß pullod out m an unconscious state, but recovered under medical treatment.
