The former, while driving through the city m his carriage, was assailed with a shower of stones, but escaped uninjured. Gendarmes were called out but as the mob showed no inclination to oppose them there was no fighting. Canoras declares the demonstrations are really directed against the monarchy and not against the Conservative party.
