October 28 At Tatt* wall's last night Chicago was backed to win the Melbourne Cup at all the money m the market at 100 to 10, after which 8 to 1 was the best offer about the Gaul field Cup winner. Malua is also being well backed, and 10 JO to 80 has been taken about his winning. Layers were, however, willing to go on at that price without fiading any acceptor*. For the blue ribbon Carbine still maintains pride of position, and 2 to 1 against him is taken and offered. Melos is quoted at 3 to 1, and outside these two 8 to 1 is laid on the field. Volley is not without supporters, but backers are standing out for 10 to 1 against the daughter of Musket and Lady Vivian. (Received October 29, 11.20 am) Melbourne, October 29.
