Passageß and references m the Bible that seem obscure at first sight are explained, and their force, meaning, and beauty are brought out and presented to the mind. It is this that has caused her pictorial addresses to have such acceptance with all classes of the community m England nnd America. She is of finseian parentage ; her father had considerable powers of public address, and, having used them m the cause of public freedom, waß exiled from his native land. Though not a Jewess, she spent the first twenty years of her life m Jerusalem, and thus acquired the material upon she now draws m expounding the custcms and modes of life common m our Lord's time. Having removed to Ame ica and noticed some of the blatant attacks of infideSity directed against Holy Scripture, she felt moved to give such explanations as would set the truth m the proper light. She was assisted by a brother who wore \ the native dress of tbe shepherd, citfzeD, or Bedouin, as the case might be.
