1.0. G.T. ANNIVERSARY
The " Rose of Springburn " Lodge ot the 1,0. G T, gave their anniversary fetg on Saturday night. After partaking of the refreshments, entered by Mr Moßae, of Springburn; the friends aaaembled dieponed themselves to listen to the ensuing oonoert. W.O.T. Mr S. McOlimont oooupled the chair, assisted by P. W.O.T. Mr James Price The items of the programme were : Piano overture, "Carnival de Venise," A. Bnechler j song, "Sailing," Mr D. Clarke, encored heartily and followed by "My Mother's Golden JRing"; ■ong by Mr Jago j recitation, " The Ivoy and Mistletoe bough," by Miss 8. Purvis: song, "My H«»ther Hills," by Mies Syme, who favored the audienoe w,Uh the encore "The Rowan tree " } duet, Mr and Miss Price, " Wiad and EJarp," exquisitely Bung and much applauded ; song, "No Irish need apply," by Mr Sycamore, also enoored : reading, Mr J. Hunter "The Hero of'fche Lake." Mr J Price then rase to present Mrs and Mr Tomjnson with a token of the Good Templars regard, and spoke as follows :— M I have great picture m presenting to Mr and Mrs Tomllnson this framed address as a mark of gratltudo on the part of our Lodge. We have many friends outside our oirole who heartily Hsiißt us, though not belonging to us, Such are especially the teachers, who help our cause wherever they can. Many indeed belong to our Order. To those who do not so belong I may express a hope that they may atill join v.a and assist us m destioyiog liquor traffic. I appeal to ycu who are now present to come a.nd. hla m, Ouc friends Mr and Mrs Tomllnson have always been forward In helping us In our efforts, and I therefore tender them on behalf of Qqr Lqdge this painted address (handing to Mr Tomllnson o handsomely framed address, executed by Mr Blake', architect, Ashburton, m excellent taste), The address bo*e the following words :
"Dear Sir,— We, the members of the Hose of Snringbarn. Lodge, 1.0. G.T., desire to express onr gratitude to you for your many acts of kindness to us as an Order, and eipecially on occasion of the visit of Mr W. Glover, G.0.T.N.Z., to onr Lodge. Mr TomUnson replied m his well-known half hanjoroua, half serlons manner, heartily thanking the members of the Lodge for their proeoot, whloh was not the Grat they had been so kind as to make to him and Mrs Tomlinson.
The oonqert then proceeded with piano piece "Fairy Yaloe," A- Buechler ; song, D. Qlark, heartily encored ; recitation, J, Flnlayson, "The Dublin Undergraduate," heartily eooored and followed by "Boys' Bights"; song, Mr Sycamore, "The Ship that Never Returned " < Duet, Mr and MUs Prloe, heartily encored 2 song, Mr Jfagojiongj 4. Eaoohier, "Bsmer»ld»"; Trio, Messrs .Job. and^g. Price and Miss Prloe, "The Sooial Glasi," The Chairman then., m a few concluding remarks, earnestly invited all t3 jaln m helping the Order la the work of temperance. The (l Jtfatfonal Anthem " wound np the oonoert and the room was oleared for a ball which, when our reporter left, ■earned to be well attended. May the Order flourish. . j
