Tamaseße's troops are deserting him daily, and the Germans hare to oapply a guard round hie oarup to prevent hia troops leaving Mn9 f The natlvas depreoate any interference from the Germans, and beg to be allowed to fight the quarrel oat among themselves. They declare that, if lett to themselves, they will m no way whatever trouble the foreign residents ; but, if the Germans insist on interfering to assist Tamaseie, they will retaliate upon the German residents m the municipality. Th's threat has greatly alatmed everybody. The German war veatel Adler is baally engaged carrying Tamaseie's troops, and towing his boats round the island to a position from which they can attack Malletoa's oamp from the rear. This action has greatly inoensed everybody, as it leaves the municipality open to native attack. Malietoa's troops are extended m line between the mnnlolpallty and the hills, and ere dally be'ng reinforced from all alder. They are, however, reported to be very Bhort of ammunition, of which Tamasese has received large supplies from the Germans. The news of Malletoa'a reported return will no doubt have the effdot of stopping further hostilities,"
