ALLEGED SLANDER.

Dunedin, October 8. At the Supreme Oouit to-day, Mrs Franaas M'Naaghton sought to reoover £200 damages from G, H. Siepheoson, auctioneer, for aliened slander. Plaintiff is a ohar woman, an 1 had beea oleanlng up pUlntifts house, when he missed two £10-notes. Awarding to to her version he called next day, with another -man, and said he had missed mojey from the d6sk; that she was the only^person io his room and therefore she haa stolen it. In ooDßequenoe aho had been unable to get other work. For the defence, the evidence went to abow that when Stephen* son called he marely informed her of the money having been lost, and asked her if she had seen anything of it Ha had informed the police, without mentioning any one as the thief. Defendant's counsel contended' that It was an attempt to extort money, and the Jury g»ve a verdict for Stephenson.
