HORSE SALE.
Messrs Fcledlander Bros;,, report as follows : — On Saturday, the 29th inst, we held our annual parade sale of horses, at our East street Horse Bssiar. The entry consisted of 5 entires, 10 pedigree brood mares, and 15 other horser, Fraviobs to the sale we paraded oar entires and mare?, several horses not Intended for sale joining In the procession. The sale started at 12.30, when there was a large assemblage of farmers and others. The first entire offered waa Mr E. Koarn's thoroughbred Wizard, by Kltfg of Clubs, dam Charm. Jle not reaohing owner's reserve was passed m at )55 guineas. Next oame Mr J. J. Dawaon'a Hercules, by Dlgby Grand, dam Picnic He is a grand stamp, suitable for getting carriage horses and roadsters, the highest bid being 80 guineas, when he was withdrawn. Mr John O'Sbea's Clydesdale Royal Conqueror also failed to reach tho reserve placed upon him by hlsowner. Next on the list was Mr James McDonald's (of Oamaru) Clydesdale entire Quality Jock, by Prince of Scotland, dam Bonnie Bell, by Renfrew Jock, 4 years old. This horse seemed to !ake the ftnoy of the public. He Btarted at 50 guineas, and fell to Me D. Brick, of Laurlston, at 95 guineas. Mr Robert Gawn's Clydesdale Auohmore, which we consider the pick of the lot, was the last to be offered. He is a dark bay horse, with splendid quality of bone, covered with long silky h&lr, showing good quality all over, being m the pink of condition His sire is that renowned horse Salisbury, dam Jess, bred by the late Mr John Muaro (Taieri). He started at 100 guineas and after spirited bidding, reaching 140 guineas, waa withdrawn, but later offers will probably result m his sale. Next pame Mr Gawn'n brood mares, the first being a bay mare, Miss Palmer, rising 4yre, sire Lord Salisbury, dam Duohoss 11, She has been a large prize-taker at the Otago shows, and is m foal to Lord of Kilbride. The starting bid of 30gs was followed by a brisk competition, and she was ultimately knocked down at 81ga to Mr John Small. A bay filly, Blossam, 3yra, by Iron Duke, bred by Mr J. B. Button, New River, m foal to Lord Salisbury, was sold to Mr M'Crostie at 40gs j A grey mare, by Kantin Robin, was sold i at 35gs to Mr W. L. Allan of the Acton estate. A bay mare, Lilly, by Sir Robert Napier, syrs, realised 3Oga ; a bay f»are, Maggie, by Olutha Lad, syre, 31gs ; a bay filly, Nettle, by Lord Salisbury, 3yrs, a prize-taker, 30gs j roan jnare, Jenny, by Sir Colin, aged, served by Aucbmore; 20gs ; bay mare, Maggie, by Young Marqaifl, fiyrs, 23gs ; bay mare, Dolly, syrs, 21 gp. For various Owner?, aged medium draughts sold at £13 to £18, and hacks from £4 10s for crocks, pp to £13 for a 5- year-old gelding by Norseman, and £15 for a good buggy gelding.
