MOUNT SOMERS.
(From our own Correspondent )
MouNr Somebs, September 28
Oo Friday a concert In aid of the Mount S<-m3ra Presbyterian-Church Fund took place at the local school. Consider ing the short notice of the entertainment given to th<> publio, the rcm w.ia very well fi ]pd. Tbe Rt<v. Mr Holnya n took the ohair shortly afier 8 o'clock, and opened the proo^edlnga without prefatory roonarke. The c >ncert consisted In th« firet part; of Backed music, m the second of miscellaneous oontribmionß. The first Item "Golden Gute " wai sung by the Ohrls'iin OVtlr, under leaderahlp cf Mr James Pr cc, and to the plan oaooompaniment of Mra F-nUysoa with good taate and preo'ato' l , 'S\l the other Items wero indeed abo worthy of praise. An anthem song by Messrs Dellow of MayfieH, brought the Brat part of the concert to a olose. The eecond part waa opened by an over ure by Mrs Finlayaon. Then followed " Dreamland," Bun« by Mr Dellow, " d plea for boys," reolUtion by J. Flnlayson, heartily encored, " Oh, ye tearF," song by Mlas A. Price, two recitations by Mr Tomllnson of Sprlngbarn, " The' Old Brigade," song, by Mr Jago, encored, and various other itema, all fairly rendered. A very enjoyable evening was closed by ''God save tbe Qi e\" Altogether the oonoert was the best ever held m Mount Somers, although moßt of the items were rendered without preparation. Tbe Christian Choir were indeed the only contributors who' had a little preliminary praotloe, and we!l they acquitted themselves of their part. I omitted to mention a stored song by Mi?B A. Prioe, whioh waa heartily ere >red. The weather np h^re is splendid j Ist now. Tha grass Is springing up very fast, but there is muob mortality among the sheep. I hear of graat numbers of ekios being almost da'ly hung np to dry alon? tbe squatters' fenoaa — a sure indication of the ravages which some myaterioua disease oomml's amotjg the flicks.
