ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET.
Mr D. Thomas (late of Matson, Cox and Oo.) reports upon the live atook market for the Asbburton district, for the week ending September 25tb, as follows : On Tuesday at tbe Tlnwald Yards I held my usual weekly sale of sheep, cattle and pigs. The total entry for the day comprised 5215 sheep and 167 head of cattle, of which I sold 1831 sheep and 54. head of cattle. The weather turned out unfavorable for the sale and In consequence we had the smallest attendance of farmers aud dealers that has been the case for some time past. The bidding fcr sheep waa very Black and several lines were paisad In unsold and sellers had to mode* rate their views before making sales. In cattle there was a slightly better demand, and the whole of my entry was sold. In sheep the following prfoes were realized : —Medium fat crossbred, lls 6d ; merino ewes, ?■ 3d • store crossbred hoggets. 10a 6d, lOi lid, and lls ; store crossbred ewe.s and lamb?, 13s Id ; mixed crossbred and merino ewes and lambs, 8s 9d. In fat cattle— fat cow?, £3 2a 6* to £5 15s ; fatsteera, £5; fat heifers, £3 7s, £4 3s 6d, £4 15> ; store betfers, £3 7i to £3 10s ; dry eowv, £3 to £3 2i 6d ; yearlings, 35s to 40*.
