THE MINERS' STRIKE

S3ptembeiTl9 In consequence of the miners' riot at the Lambton Mine, Newcastle, his Excellency the Governor has issued a proclamation calling upon the citizens to assist m maintaining law and order m the coal districts. The proclamation warns the miners that stringent measures will be adopted by Government for the security of those engaged m lawful work. Colonel Roberts and 20a of the Permanent Artillery, with Gatling and Nordenfeldt guns, left for Newcastle this evening. (Received September 20, 11 am ) Sydney, September 20. Three ringleaders named Sloan, Firth, and Evans, who took part m the riot at Lambton mine, have been arrested. Seven non- associated collieries have arranged with the miners to commence work. They will absorb a thousand men.
