ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET
♦ . Mr D. Thomas (late of Matson, Cos, and Go.) reports upon the live stock market for the Ashburtoa District for the week ending September 4th, as follows : — On Tuesday at the Ashburton Yards I held my .usual weekly sale of Bheep, oattle, and pigs. The total entry for the day's transactions was 3300 sheep and 30 head of oattle. There was a large attendance of farmers, graziers, and butohers present, and oompetition, after the first two or three pens were disposed of, was very brisk. I disposed of the whole of my entry, numbering 2691 sheep and 6 head of .oattle, at the following prioes:— Fat merino wethers, 12s 6d to 12s 9d ; fat orossored ewes and wethers, 11s 6d, 12s 6d, 13s, 14s 2d, 14s 3d ; store orossbred two-tooth, 11s 4d ; two and four-tooth ditto, 12s 6d and 12s 9d; two, four, and six-tooth orossbred ewes m lamb, 11s Id ; six and full mouth ditto, 12s 7d ; mixed fat Bheep and m iamb, 14s 3d ; sound mouth merino ewes m lamb, 6s 2d, 7s, 7s 6d, 7a 8d ; a good line of crossbred ewes with lambs at foot, 13s lid ; oroesbred hoggets, rather small, 9s Id. In fat cattle — Fat cows, £6 10s ; springers, £4 5s to £5 12s 6d ; two-year -old steer, £2 14s ; calves, 21s. On Friday I held my usual fortnightly sale of sheep Bbins. The total entry comprised 487 skins which were sold at the following prioes : — Butchers 1 orosßbred, 4s to 5s 6d ; merino, 4s 3d to 4s 9d ; farmers' orossbred, 4s Id to 5s 6d ; ordinary orossbred early shorn, 2s 6d to 3s 9d; merinos, la 7d to 2s 8d; pelts, 2d to 7d.
