TINWALD TOWN BOARD
* The ordinary monthly meeting of the Tinwald Town Board was held at the Board's i flics, Tinwald, on Friday, 31at August, at. 8 p.m. Prcsant — Messrs J. Olatk (Chairman), Scott, Shearer, Wll liams, and Jephson. The Chairman reported that the tender of Meßsra Proadfoot and Lowe, at 3s per ohaln, had been accepted for catting a drain dovrn Graham 'a road; Correspondence w»a read (1) From the County Engineer re flood water drainage meeting at Flemington. — It was resolved, "That this Boat d regrets that it cannot ooinolde with the meeting held at Flemington re the formation of a drainage diatriot to include the Upper Ashbarton Road Diatriot and the Tinwald Town Diatriot. This Board con see no benefit that oan arlee from another body formed for taxing purposes, and do the work that the County Council Is supposed to do. It is tbe opinion of this Board that the only remedy against flood water Is a law j by which property owners are compelled to olear out the natural creeks and water courses that ran through their property from the hills to the beaoh."— (2) From the Resident Engineer, New Zealand railways, re flame aorosa main drain. — It was tha opinion of the Board that the flame was of so small obstruction to the flood water that it cannot be of any injury to the railway.— (3) From the Property Tax Commissioner, advising the Board of tbe payment of Bubsidy for 1887-8, Into tbe Bank.— (4) From tbe Ashbarton County Council, re gravel Reserve on Fraaer's road. — Left over till next meeting. Mr Schneider Interviewed the Board, and asked that a ford should be made across the Lagmhor road where the old bridge was taken Dp, to take some of the flood water that comeß down his aide of the river.— lt was the unanimous opinion of the Board, after discussion, that no benefit would accrue to Mr Schneider if | the ford was made ; the Board therefore declined to act upon his suggestion. The Surveyor was authorised to have some footbridges put across Bide channels at different places, and get gorae cleared for fall width m M' Mar do street, and footbridge placed over creek. It was resolved to call for tenders for forming part of Ann street, clearing out aide channels from Johnston to Graham street, and patching footpath from Johnston street to Ford' a road. Tenders for forming and shingling Grove street were opened, and that of John Griffin accepted. After passing aooounts the Board adjourned.
