(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION) Gisborne, September The Cook County Council sued the Borough Council for £75, excessive damages done to the road over which the borough carted a considerable quantity of stone for a contract. The Magistrate ruled that the weight of each cart was not excessive, and that the traffic was not extraordinary, and dismissed the case with costs. Masterton, September 1. A very Important decision was given today In the case, Official Assignee v Hull in which the former sought to obtain from the Judge of the District Court, an order directing the Wellington Land Board to transfer the interest of Hull, a bankrupt, in a deferred payment section to the Official Assignee for the benefit of the creditors. Judge Davey held that under the Act he had no power to make such an order. A farm house at Otaki, known as Bannister's old Homestead, was burnt down yesterday. It was owned by Buick, and occupied by Lyons. The building was insured in the New Zealand office for £300. The oontents were uninsured. Wellington, September 1. The Government Insurance Department have paid the amount of Percival Bear's policy. Blenheim, September 1. Mr Larnach and others have just returned from the Makaramina. They visited Mahakipawa. Mr Larnach informs the " Express" that in his opinion the soil is very rich at Mahakipawa, and that the field is likely to carry a number of men. The above is merely sent as a record, and must not be taken as inviting a rash, for as yet there is nothing to justify any flocking over of poor men. Dunedin, September 1. William Davidson, night porter at the Albion Hotel, died suddenly at nine this morning. He has been here over a quarter of a century and at one time was in a good position, having been a member of the City Council.
