» [per press association.} Timaru, August 30, A man named O'Oonnell, a resident of Albury, was arrested to-day for Illicit distillation. When arrested O'Oonnell rushed out over a bank near the house, and was seen to throw something into tbe creek. Shortly afterwards O'OonnelPs premises were searohed. In the creek the police found a demijohn containing manufactured spirits, and some bags containing malt. In a shed they found a quantity of spirits In process of distillation, and a thermometer suoh as is used by distiller*. In the house was foui-d a hydrometer for testing the strength of the spirits, together with other articles which convinced the police that the manufacture of spirits hai been oarried on. O'Oonnell will be brought up at the R.M Oourt to-morrow morning. Timaru, August 31. Michael O'Oonnell, laborer, was arrested yesterday morning la an out of the way plaoe m Albory distriot. He was remanded till next Thursday on a oharge of being m possession of utensils used m distilling and of spirits on whioh duty had not been paid. The police brought In two demijohns of spirit, some malt and small utensils from the prisoner's place.
