CORN EXCHANGE.

The following is the Corn Exchange report for the week ending Friday, August 30th, 1888 :— English wheat cables advise us that the market is still rising, bnt against this freight has an upward dendenoy, and at present is difficult to obtain at any price, negoitations are, however, being oarried on with a view of inducing some of the Newcastle coal vessels to eorne down m ballast to load wheat and if successful it is not likely that the freight will be muoh lowered. During the week considerable transactions have taken place m wheat up to 3s 3d, being freely given for prime large lines of tuscan tnd hunters at Id less. Lines now changing are prioipally ex Btore panels. Looal millers are taking up all the hard wheat that is offering. The oat market is very quiet, few outside orders coming to hand, holders, however, are very firm' m their demands. We expect a better tone m the oourse of another month. Very little prime barley is offering, and buyers of Beed parcels have to give fall value. Maltsters, however, as yet have made nothing. Grass seed is a drug on the market and farmers m want of good seed are able to get their requirements at a very reasonable rate. Potatoes are, perhaps, not quite so firm at 52s 6d.
