STANLEY RELIEF EXPEDITION.
» (PJtB PBESS ASSOCIATION ) Zanzibar, Augns.t 24. Information has reached here that Major Btrttelot left the river Aruwizti on May ioh. He met with considerable hostility on the part of the natives, but his forces struggled on. In attempting a rally Major Barttelot was taken prisoner, but effected his escap?, and ultimately succeeded m reaching Stanley Falls. Here, however, he was again attacked by natives, and his camp surrounded, Major Barttelot and his party being taken prisoners. Mr Ward, m charge of another wing, is pushing on with the intention of rescuing the prisoners. No news is forthcoming as to the whereabouts of Stanley, except that he has met with considerable opposition from natives and his forces are weakened by numerous, encounters, and they have also suffered from disease. «
