[ HOSPITALS AND CHARITABLE INSTITUTIONS KIH. In the Ffouae on July 24 h Mr Walker aßked if the Government wjuld give au anaw.r wHh regard to the Hospltila and Obnriteble Institutions Bill amendments, and aa to the measure of relief which the Govarnnoent were prepared to give to adjust the d fficulty between the different dt;triota. If this could be done at the present tlmo It would be very satisfactory. Sir H. A. Atkinson a tIJ the Govemment had considered thia matter with every desire to see that justice w&s doiv all round, but they wera unable to deal with the question thiß session. The question was one which would want very careful consideration, and, as honorable gentlemen knew, the Government had been very hud pressed during the short reoeßS, and a matter of this great importance was not to be legislated upon hurriedly. The Government proposed next Heedon to bring down a Bill dealing with the question on linea whloh he hoped would be satisfactory both to town and to country. Mr Walker m'ght ask the Premier to go a little farther, and to say that he acknowledged there were difficulties m the way which required to be got rid of m order to make tne thing work satisfactorily. Sir H. A. Atkinson said he acknowledged there were a great many difficulties to bj got rid of bob as affecting the town and the country ; m f»oi, the whole question was aurrounded with difficulties —so much so that he had no hope that the Government would be entirely successful m overcoming them ; but he hoped that they would produce a Bill next session which wou'd deal m a comprehensive way with the whole matter, and mete out even justice to all concerned. Major Sisward wished to know if the House could understand that tho Bill would be brought down early m the session and as a Government Bill. Sir H. A. Atkinson siid he could not fix a day, but it would b 3 brought down ab a Gore nment imnsure, and a* a measure which tho Governmeat "attached importance to. It was one of those EOaia 1 measures that ought to be carrisd if possible Sir J. Hall w.'Bhed to know whether m this matter of hospitals and charitable aid the Premier would include m his con sideration not only tha division of the 0 ) ony into districts, but also the basis of Ice il taxation tor ihese subject Ik appeared to him that this required almost more careful consideration than any other point, and he hoped to hear the honorable gentleman say that when the question was taken up this portion of it should not bo lost sight of. Sir H. A. Atkinson had much, p'easure m assuring tha Uouso ihat tho Government would most certainly take into con sideration the question of the basis upon which taxation oughc to go.
