Two Australian wheat cargoes have been sold at 39s Bd, One thousand quarters of an Adelaide shipment at 88s 4£d, and a farther shipment of 2500 quarters at 395. ; ' London, August 24. The freights to the colonies continue to rise, and an advance from 25 to 50 per cent, is reported. Shipping is very scarce. The weekly returns of the Bank of England published to-day shovr the total reserve m notes and bullion to be £11,511,000, and the proportion of reserve to liabilities 43^ per cent., being an increase of £500,000 m the total reserve, and an increase of 3^ per cent m proportion to liabilities. .... The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have just received the following cable message , from their London office : — Wheat — The weather is threatening, and is likely to interfere with harvest prospects. The market consequently has an upward tendency, New Zealand wheats, average and long-berried, are worth respectively 36s 6d and 38s per 4961b5.
