SCARCITY OF WORK IN OTAGO.
[PER PRESS ASSOCIATION. J Dunedin, August 24. The Secretary of the L»bor Exchange reportß to the Board of Advice that m the whole history of the provincial district there never was buou a scarcity of labor for all c'aaaes of workmen as during the last four monthß, and there Is no appearanoe of any ohanga for the better. Farmers, publlo bodies, and other employerß of labor are doing with as few hands aB possible. There are no works of a public or private nature going on In the city or suburban districts, excepting relief works, :,whloh are now nearly fu'l handed. Many respectable families In the ootnmunlty are Buffering m eilenoe, being unwilling to parade their necessities before the publlo, In consequence of the inability of the bread winners to find employment. It was decided to telegraph to the Government the urgent necessity for putting the Middlemaroh section of the Otago Central m hand at once. Dunbdin, Angost 25. The Minister for Public Works telegraphs that he has arranged to have the Middlemaroh Seotlon of the Otago Central Railway, put In hand immediately for the relief of the unemployed,
