WAKANUI RIVER BOARD.

An adjourned meeting of th* Wakanui River Board was "held on Saturday. Present— -Messrs Jas. Brown (Chairman), M. Wilson, T. Olephane, D, Leddy and S. Brown. The Chairman and Mr Wilson were appointed to sign the rate book. In regard to the matter of protecting an embankment, which was considered at some length at a meeting on the previous day, Mr; Olephane moved "That the Board grant 100 stakes, five oirt of wire, and one ton of railway rails to be used to weigh down, tie And aecare bandies of willows to protect the embankment." Mr S. Brown seconded. On being put to the meeting the motion waa loit, the majority of members considering that no avoidable expense should be Incurred m view of the number of ratepayers who were adverse to the Board oontfnnlng In office. The Chairman then moved " That this Board Is of opinion, judging from the petitions laid before It that It does not poaaesa the confidence of the majority of the ratepayers of the diatriot, and therefore deolines to Incur further liability and that, as, a oonseqnenoe ail Its members should Immediately resign." Seconded by Mr D. Leddy and oarrled. The Chairman farther moved, *<That any urgent works that may arise ba lefl to the management of the Provisional Committee elected daring the last emergency, and which Is m possession of a oonalderable amount of public money, subscribed by ratepayers, and of which no aooount has been rendered to the public ; 1 that a oopy of this resolution be forwarded to the Chairman and the Treasurer Messrs E. Thomss and D, Wilson." This was eeoonded by Mr Leddy and oarried. The members of the Board then wrote out their resignations which were handed to the Chairman, who having written his own and instructed the returning offioer to late steps to fill the vacancies, declared the meeting closed:
