A FEMALE CATTLE RAIDER.
» (Per Pkess Association.) Invekcaegill, August 16. The jury in the cattle stealing case against Sophia K(dd, after being locked up over night were unable to agree on a verdict 1 and were discharged, Mr Justice Williams, in doing so, said it was a great mlefortune to o»uue a fresh trial, with delay and expense to the public. Really, in another casa of the kind, one would be almost inclined to resort to the old practice only reoently changed, which, at any rate, had the effect of making a jury agree — that of keeping them together till they did agree. By this means a verdict was at any rate assured. The case comes on again on Monday, for which day a new jury has been summoned The trial-is causing considerable excitement here, accused's family being in good oirourmtances, owning three farms.
