SLIPS ON THE RAILWAY.

DUNEDIN, August 10
Rain fell almost continuously to-day and still continues: Several sllpa ooourred on the north line yesterday, but they were all oleared away without oausing much dehy m the traffic, the north express baiag only ten minutes late. A large slip has taken place on the Duuedln side of the Chain Hills tencel oa the south line, and it It feared communication will be cot off. The warm rain threatens to bring down a disastrous fl)od on l he Taferi Plain. The river Is already very high, being right over the Outram Branch line, and bb rain has set ia at Naseby serlouß consequences are feared, as the tccumulation of snow is very heavy.
Dunedin, August 11;
The Taieri river has over fl iwed and the railway between Owhero and Greytown ia under water. The train foe the south got through this morning, but vehicles will have to be employed tc-night to carry the passengers and mails across the flooded portions and transfer them to another train which will be sent from Danedlu. There: is a slip at Chain Bills, but this is oleared. The r»in oontinaos. The northern line la clear.
