(Received Aognnt 8, 10.40 p.m ) Melbourne, August 8. This afternoon a meeting of the New Zealand Exhibition Commissioners and others, was held to consider the adverse criticism by the " New Zealand Herald's" correspondent on the mineral exhibits which had appeared m the " Argus " this morning m a cable message from New Zealand. Seventy gentlemen were present, Mr Louisson, Mayor of Christchurcb, m the chair. After discussion a resolution was passed expressing satisfaction with all the arrangements, and affirming that the criticism of the v Herald " correspondent was premature. The meeting was called together independently of any suggestion from Sir Jas. Hector. Sir W. Jervois, who loft for New Zealand m the s.s. Manapouri to day, was accompanied aboard the Bteamer/by Sir James Hector,®the New Zealand Commissioner at the Exhibition, and a number of prominent New Zealanders now visiting Melbourne, and was entertained at luncheon aboard the steamer by Sir James Hector, who, m proposing the health of his Excellency, said he desired, on behalf of the colony, to express thanks to bJ3 Excellency for the great interest he had taken m the Exhibition. The success of the New Zealand Court was almost entirely due to the lively personal interest shown m the work by his Excellency. In returning thanks, his Excellency said the New Zealand Court held an admirable position among the other colonies, and the colony was much indebted to bir J. Hector, the New Zealand Commissioner, for the admirable manner m which the arrangement of the court had been carried out, and for the careful attention paid to details. Wellington, August 8. Government have telegraphed to Sir Jas. Hector as to the report condemning the exhibits m the New Zealand Court at the Melbourne Exhibition, and rereceived the following reply:— "The report emanated from speculator here (Melbourne). The minerals are not yet fully displayed. Will have a complete representation. General opinion ?sry favorable,'!
