The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 2,020,000 quarters ; for the Continent, 280,000 quarters.
The weekly returns of the Bank of England, published to day, show a total reserve m notes and bullion of £11,562,000. The proportion of reserve to liabilities is 39 J P er cent., being a decrease of £738,000 m the total
reserve, and an increase of £ per cent, m proportion to liabilities. The Bank rate of discount is 2^ per cent. Tallow and mutton, 24s to 24s 66" ; beef, 22s to 235.
London. August 5. The freights to Sydney and Melbourne have advanced 5s per ton.
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, have just received the following cable advice from their London office, dated August Brd :—
Tallow— The market is firm. Good beef and mutton tallows are worth respectively 23s and 25s per cwt.
Dalgety and Company, Limited, have received the following cable message from their head office, m London : — "Now Zealand frozen mutton has advanced to s{j-d. English hops— - The prospects for the new crop are so far unfavorable ; prices are firm, with a hardening tendency."
