Supreme Court. AUCKLAND, August 6.
The August civil sittings of the Supreme Court commenced this morning.
Wound up. -' At an extraordinary general meeting of the Auckland Land Settlement Company on Saturday, a resolution was passed that the Oomprny be voluntarily wound op, and George S. KlsaUng and J. B. Whyte were appointed liquidators at a reraanaratfoa of £100 each. Wound up. At the poll of the Onehunga ratepayers j on Saturday on the Council's proposal to borrow £2000 additional to complete the j waterworks, the result wan a ruction of the proposal. This is the third time the poll has failed. It Is expected the Mayors and Councillors will resign m consequence,
Badly Burned. Rose MoOaffary, » domestic servant at Burn's hotel, was severely burned on Saturday through her dress oatohlng fire whilst employed In the kitohen preparing the dinner. She is badly burned about the legs. The fl lines were extinguished by Miss Kyan, who, while doing so, was attacked by the house dog, whioh m the excitement of the moment sprang at her and seized hes dress m his teeth. The dog, however, was soon driven away.
Inquest. At the Inquest on J. Barr Brown, Waluka, Dr Dalziel who made the post mortem examination deposed that the oaaae of death was Ohronie Alcoholism. The jiry rotnrned a verdict to that effect adding th& L , they were of opinion a mediral man ihonld have been called In, and that measures should have been taken to prevent the deceased from the ezosßßlvo ÜBB of alcohol.
Accident to a Minister. Wellington, A.ngust 6. The Hon T. Fercm met with an awk-
ward accident on Saturday afternoon. Be was m th# bath room at Ballainy'a, when bo happened to throw bis right hand and he oharply struck the gas globs. The glass inflicted a deep cut on the bnok of the hand near the wclst. Dr Pollen was m the building at the time and applied a tourniquet which stopped tho bleeding. Except that ho lost a good deal of blood and will be unable to use his hand for some time. Mr Fergus did not sustain any serious injury.
