AUCKLAND, AugDSt 4. A telegram received m town states that Geo. Wyatt, a storekeeper at K»wewa, ten miles sooth of Hokianga, has been drowned, Kavrewa Is a gam digging settlement a{.oa the sea coaat, and Mr Wyatt has been m the habit of oonveylng his gum and stores by boat to Hokianga harbor. Poshing oat through the surf on this stormy coast is always attended with greai danger, and no doubt Mr Wyalt has met his death m one of these perilous expeditions.

Wellington, Aagnst 6 The Under Secretary fee Native Affvira h»B received a telegram from Mr Biabop, E.M. at Mongonul, that George Wyatt, storekeeper at Kawewa, went oat fishing with three Natlvea when the boat oapaizad and Wyatt was drowned. The three Natives were stated to be clinging to the bout at sea. The weather was 10 rough and the sea bo high that no communication could be held with them from the shore The steam launoh at Hokiangn could not get oat across the bar and all the boats are powerless. The only hope of saving them woald be by a steamer from Man&kan or Kalpara. Mr Lewis at once wired to Auckland to get a steamer sent to the reaoue of the men and at 3.30 yesterday morning the steamer Rowena left Oaehunga for the scene of disaster.

Later. Mr Lewis has received a telegram from Mr Bishop to the effect that Wyatt and a Native named Temorenba were drowned. Two persons wore saved Ringi Rawinanul a native, and Tai Riwohal, a hajf caste. The lat er two were many hoars m the water and considerably knocked about, Wyatt clung to the boat for half an boar, bat was washed cff. He coald not swim. Tb.9 people on shore wtre powerless to help. It la not stated how the two men were saved, but it is presumed they clang to the boat, which must have been gradually washed ashore.

A later telegrim from Rawenl says two men were drowned and two saved. The boat drifted over a mile north and theD drifted m Ghore with the flood tide. One man stack to it till It smashed op on the rooka.
