The House met at 2.30. SHKKP COMMITTEE

Mr Lance brought up the report of tho Sheep Committee. He said that the Committee had made a very exhaustive enquiry, and had taken a large amount of evidence on the scab question. He referred to it at some length, alleging that great dissatisfaction existed with reaped to the management of the department, and ho said that, although there were many capable men In it, the head of the department was not fit for his position. He moved that the report lie on the table.

Mr McKenz'e (VValhemo) moved as an amendment that Government be requested to give effect to the recommendations of the Committee. After some discussion the motion as amended was agreed to on the voices. NATIVE AFFAIRS COMMITIEE. Mr Kelly brought up the report of tho Native Affairs Committee on the petition of Arthur Owen. The report was to the eff ;ct that the charges made against the Chief Judge and officera of the Native Lands C mrt were not substantiated.

Mr Hamlln moved that the report be printed, and that the presentation of the report be deferred to next day. The amendment was agreed to. QUESTIONS

Replying to questions it was stated that It waa proposed this year to pay local bodies subsidies out of ordinary revenue, and not out of tea duty ; that it was not advisable to terminate the forty eight hours' weekly tack of linemen on Govern ment railways at Doon on Saturday ; that no unnecessary harshness was used In handcuffing the Chineao arrested m the gaming house In Wellington recently, end that the charges against thorn were properly laid j that no record had been kept of the number of cattle and horses killed on the Bluff Inveroarglll line since its opening j that if the Auctioneers Bill came before the Home this session a provision would be inserted In it requiring auctlcnsers to keep a register of the brands of sheep sold by them, and of the names of the persons for whom they were Bold, m order to cheok BhoepsteaUng ; that if the practice of shooting on Simdavß at tlmea and places to the annoyanca of the publlo were persisted m, Government would endeavor to prevent it.
