ASHBURTON LIVE STOCK MARKET

Mr D. Thomas (late Matson, Cox, and Co.) reports upon the live stook market for the Ashburton Distriot for the week ending July 19th as follows :—

On Tuesday at the Tinwald, Yards a fair entry of sheep, oattle, and pig&were yarded: In sheep some very good lines were forwarded, notably those sent by Messrs M'Keage, Turton, and M'Kendry, realising 13s 6d, 12s 6d, and 12s 3d per head. Biddings, although not brisk, were of suoh a character that I succeeded in disposing of the bulk of sheep yarded at auotion, the whole of toy large oatalogue being disposed of under the hammer at prioes as follows, viz. : —Fifty fat ewes mixed ages, 9s 2d ; 32 two-tooth fat wethers, 9s ; 67 ditto, 9a Gd ; 35 fat crossbred ewes, 9s 3d ; 70 four-tooth quarterbacks, 7s 6d ; 50 fat two-tooth crossbreds, 12s 6d ; 100 ditto, 10s sd ; 39 ditto, 13s 6d ; 16 crossbred lambs, 7s sd ; 16 mixed orossbreds, 63 2d ; 300 merino ewes in lamb, 5a lid; 125 merino wethers, 4s 8d ; 220 cull lambs, 3s lOd ; 80 f ullmouth crossbred ewes in lamb, 8s 6d ; 78 merino wethers, 2s 6d ; 198 merino ewes in lamb, 4s 6d ; 500 merino ewes in lamb, 5s 3d ; 300 two and four-tooth mixed fat croesbredsj 12s 3d. Prices may be considered as fully equaUo anything qtjtained at any time this season, and an unlinked number of shepp oan be disposed of in this distriot between now and shearing. In cattle our sales were small. In faot the oattle sale now.a-days is more of a farce than anything else. Farmers being afraid to purchase until Bpring, conse* quently those wishing to sell have to suffer. In pigs a better entry than usual was offered o the publio ; and owing to the presence of a foreign capitalist a olearanoe was made at better values than might have been expeoted when the quality is taken into consideration. ' Privately during the week I have disposed of several lines of fat and store sheep at prices ] fully equal to quotations ; crossbred ewes in i lamb being most in demand. I

In land and property nothing new to report.
