DIVISION OF THE COUNTY

MEETING AT DORIB. A meeting of ratepayers in the South Rakaia distriot was held at Dorie on Wednesday last to consider the above question. About twenty ratepayers were present, and Mr John McLean occupied the chair, Mr Coster, the Chairman of the Road Board, attended and explained at length the object of the proposed changes. He moved— "That in the opinion of this meeting it 1b desirable to sever tbe Oounty." Seoonded by Mr Morrow and i oarrled unanimously, i It wbb understood that tho boundaries of the proposed new Oounty would be the Rakaia and ABhburton rivers, following tbe north branch of the latter. ' With regard to the abolition of the Road Boards, Mr R. Mulligan moved — "That, in the opinion of this meeting, It is not advisable to do away with the Road Boards." Seconded by Mr ii. Harrison and carried, the voting being thirteen in favor of the motion and one against; The proceedings terminated with votes of thanks to the Chairman for presiding, and to Mr Coster for the valuable Information he had furnished to the meeting
