Le^ve of absence tot fourteen days .was granted to Mr Larnach on account ol sickness lc his family, QUESTIONS Replying to questions It was stated that Government regretted they could not put any money on the estimates for publishing the last issues of the " Korlmlko," Maori newspaper, and that the Maoris themselvos should oontrlbute towards it ; that the question of reduolng tho annual coats of telephones to subscribers would be considered during the recess ; that a substantial bonus would be paid to anyone, who woqld Introduce into the colony a system whioh would Buooesafully treat refraotory ores on goldfieldr ; that there was a precedent for the Governor absenting himself from the colony while Parliament was sitting, Sir Arthur Gordon having left for Fiji during the term of offioe of a late Government while Parliament was m session; that a communication had taken place between the Government and other oolonles as to the advisableness of laying a cable between New Zsahnd and Van oouver

The House went into Committee on the Middle Island Halfosstes Grants Bill, whioh passed with slight amendment. SLAUGHTERHOUSE BILL. Tbe House went into Committee on the Slaughterhouse Bill. The Bill, was discussed at length and several amendments made, The House rose at 5.3Q p.m.
