THE LONGBEACH DRAINAGE SYSTEM
At the conclusion of the meeting at Longbsaoh r.e the division of the county, and the abolition of the Road Boards, the question of drainage soheme was disoussed.
The Chairman, AJr John flrigg explained to the meeting that- this was a matter m whioh they were vitally interested and which they had io m their own hands to carry out. They oouid borrow money to carry out any soheme that was proposed, at 5 per cent. This would individually be a very small annual expenditure and for whioh they would reap a great benefit, but they must work together to prooure this end and look at .the matter m a broad light. For himself he had not the lea&t hesitation m going for it straight. Mr Baxter, the County Engineer, was ia attendance and would explain the details of the soheme and the proposed boundaries.
Mr Baxter explained the matter to tho meeting 1 at some length and answered questions'that were 'put. ; ' . f> The Chairman considered that it would be expedient; for a small committee to be appointed to go thoroughly into the matter with the ' assistance ' of the Qounty Engineer,' to apoertain what would be the beat 'boundaries. bo that anyone not interested should be left out and those- interested put m. They coufd then draw up a petition for presentation to the Oounoil. *-
On the motion 'of Mr Dunn, Messrs T. Taylor, J. Shearer, J. Grigg and S. Chapman were appointed a committee to bring the scheme to an issue.
After a vote of thanks to the ohair and Mr Baxter the meeting dispersed.
