NEW SOUTH WALES.
Sydnbtt, July 3 The first general meeting of the Australasian Society for the Advancement of Science will be held on August 28th. In the House of Assembly this afternoon Sir Henry Parkes, the Premier, stated that a judicial enquiry some years ago had determined that the Murray River was the property of New South Wales, and he assured the House that the Government was unlikely to do anything which would impair the authority of the colony over the river. Owing to fhe interruption of the pables the captain of the Alameda has been unable to obtajn a reply from Messrs Sprecfcles as to what aption he should take with reference to the request of the Maritime Labor Union that all non-Unionists and Chinese on board the steamer should be discharged before the Union will agree to work the ship. Under the circumstances the captain offered, if he was allowed to depart, he would undertake not to return with the Chinese portion of the crew. The Union, however, will not agree to this, and insist on those to whpra they- pbject being discharged fiow. ' ' c.: ■' #.;■..,
