legislative: council. Thursday, June 28, The Council met "at 2.30 p ra, SCHOOLMASTERB. The Eon G S. Whitcaore asked wbeth-r schcolmaßters m the Education Department are allowed by the regulations to act as clerks to local bodies without special perm esion of the Board, and whether such schoolmasters have if m their powar to close pubtic schools fir the purpose of attending to work aa euch servants of local bodies. The Attorney -General answered that schoolmaatera were under the control of the Education Boards, and not of the Government j bit certainly they had no right to close achools to perform other duties ABSENT MEMBERS. Mr Wilson moved that a Committee be appointed to report whether Sir Frederiok Whit ikor, Mr Pbarazyn, Mr Oliver, and Mr Waterhouge were disqualified from sitting m the Council through their ausence. On the suggestion of tie Speaker, Mr Wilson withdrew his motion m order to amend it bo as to make it come within the Standing Orders THE HONOKAHIDM Mr Mantel moved a 89rioe of resolution.B m connection with certain expenses drawn from the Treasury by the Wellington members of the Council, and asking that Government should legislate to avoid the recurrence 'of the transaction. i The motion was carried on a division by 20 to 6. .
