(PEB PBKBS ASSOCIATION,) lofdon, June 26 In the House of Commons, Lord Lamington gave notice of a Bill to regulate the sale of foreign meats. Mr Morley, m speaking to his amendment, said that seventeen members of the House of Commons had been imprisoned. There were also forty political prisoners at present m a •ingle gaol He challenged the justice, expediency, wisdom, and even the statements of success of the Government policy m Ireland. He charged the Government with provoking the outrages by their manner of treating offences. The Plan of Campaign, he maintained, had done no substantial injustice. Mr Goschen, m reply, said that when Mr Gladstone resigned office the Irish had little respect for law, and little love for England. Mr Dillon, he said, was an agrarian prisoner and not a political prisoner. The Opposition were really indignant because the Plan of Campaign had been defeated. On the motion of Mr O'Brien, the debate was adjourned. London, June 27. The division on Mr Morley's amendment was taken this evening, with the result that the amendment w^s negatived by 93. The figures were — For the amendment, 273 ; against, 366. In the course of the debate on Mr Morley's amendment, Mr Gladstone said he believed that at the first opportunity the country would unequivocally condemn the existing state of affairs m Ireland, where a repressive policy had proved a failure. Mr Balfour said there was to-day less crime m Ireland than had been known for years ; rents were paid, and social difficulties were disappearing.
