David Asher and Pine Awanni were charged at tbe Supreme Court to-day with conspiracy to defraud, by procuring oertaia aboriginal Natives to personate other Natives, some of whom were dead ; but who, if living, would be entitled, with other Natives, to a oertaia block of Und, m order that the Natives ■o impersonating might receive (he money which those whom they personated would be entitled to receive. Asber pleaded ••not guilty," and the othor prisoner " guilty." Mr Batton, m opening the case, stated that the proceedings wore m connection with the Paparaoa block, situate about eight miles from Tamona which Goverement wish to purchase. Asher was employed by Government to negotiate with the Natives for tho parchase of the block, and was to receive £5 for each signature of ac own r r whlo'i b. 3 procured. He entered into arrangements with Vina AwaDul to get signatures by getting otber Natives to p?raonate the proper owners, some of whom were dead. The c\aa was not concluded. i
