MR ALDRIDGE'S DOCTRINE
We have been asked to record an opinion on a pamplet which has been sent to us. It ie entitled 'Pobt Mortem Salvation," and its writer is a Mr George Aldridga of Auckland. We have, however, not much of an opinion to record, as there ia vory lit le m tho pamphlet on which to bass en opinion of any consoquence. Ttiathe would-be authoritative deliverance of a man who clearly does not know what he is talking about, and who, so far as can be made out from tho general confusion of h's composition, wherever hi does commit himself to a definite etiternent makes a egregious mistake. It is a fa'se assertion, for example, that the Bible alone was the creed of primitive Christianity. Nor is tbere much sense m the claim that the Bible makes revelations within reach of the capacity of the common people, which it has, Devertheloss, taken a co'iple of thousand years for so much as an indivi dual or two, as m Mr Aldtidge's own case, to understand. A book like that could do the common people little gocd, and it rnaj be doubted that even tha uncommon people themselves would profit very much by it. This pamphlet has been published m condemnation of Pro* feßsor Salmond's late departure from orthodoxy, but, if the Professor does .cot encounter a more formidable adversary, there will be little to convict him of error, — " Tablet."
