Mr Origg was elected Chairman for the ensuing year, Mr Williams was voted to the cbalr m tbe absence of the Chairman, APOLOGY. kxx apology wa reoeWtd from Mr <?rigg, who was absent, having to attend an Important meeting of the Freezing Company. CORBE6POSDHNCB. Correspondence w«a read as follows : — (1) From the Aahburton Dru* Company, eocloßing circular re poisoned vrhuat ; (2) From Oh as. Brooke on the same Bobjoot ; (3) Prom the Oouoty Counoil, granting thlß Board £18 Kia for poißoned grain. — It waa resolved to procure two baehois of best samples from both chemists ; (4) From the County Council, enclosing resolution re dividing the present County Into two Oonotioß, and abo'isbing tho R ad Boards, and asking the Board togtt an expression of opinion from the ratepayers, and also give one from themselvea. — The Board decided, before givlug (an expression themselves, to call a meeting of ratepayer's at Fiemington sohoolftyom about July 9th. BATE. Ii was decided to give pnbllc notloe of the Board's intention to strike » rate of three farthings 'n tbe pound at thele next meeting. surveyor's report (1) Boundary Road, Hinda Road: With the Chairman of the Board we inspeoted the crossing of the river Hinds at this point. The Chairman of the Coldslroam Road Board was not present with the Council Committee, who had also decided to inspeot with reference to protection. The north side of the river is still m a bad state, the river having sooured a deep bed jußt under the ba.nk, We do not see how any cutting or making of approaches would be of any servioe, while the river ia m its present unprotected state. The first fresh would Bweep any work away. We would also point out that any tampering with tho bankß might have a tendenoy to bring the river down the road, and probably seriously damage property below, Wj consider the best means to provide for traffic this way would be to get the oonsent of Mr Grigg, who is favorable to the project, to allow the temporary use of a small portion of his land, from the gorse fence to the present droßßing, and the Road Boards interested fence it off, this would prevent "any interference witfh the river until protection has been made. (2) OhatmoHS road. — With Mr MoKay and Mr MoWilliams the members for the Ward, we inspected, this road with reference to the complaints made by Mr MoKay of the deviation of wator from itß natural oourao down the road. At present the water from tho oreak whioh crosses this road some distanoe above the Boundary road is sent down tho road owing to the natural bank being reduced. No doubt m times of flood a considerable quantity of flood water flows m this way, and there not being sufficient outlet at the cross roads, it probably affeotß the adjoining properties. There is but little doubt that the length of road between the creek and tho South road, sends a considerable quantity of flood water, and the owners of 'properties through whioh tho oreek runa,- probably coasjder they should not be entitled to take IMb additional supply. The question resolves itself into this, that if the water is allowed to run as at present an outlet must be made bolow " the Boundary road and a culvert pUt m; othorVine tho banks df the oreek mijst ba maae to" their original level and thus relievo the Board of any responsibility. We have had the drain made up to where the formation commences which will assist m getting rid of flood water, and we have also had thedr^in cleared out of oresß and, other vegetation. ' 1 (3) tjtTaham'.B road.— \yo have portion of this rotfd above' Grifliths' ford re'- metalled,' tor a few chains it 'being bad for tr'affyj. '^ho road from this ford qp to Graham's corner m {apt requires metalling, it being bad laßt winter, 'but w,o suppose untij a new rate is struck the work mußt remain m abeyan.ee.— The majntenjjncio u^an js at proaeqt making a |pr<i at the wtatcouree opposite Byl»ndfl. (i) liongbeftoh. road. ■- Wo nave had plaooH an. this road from Fishy ' 3t 0 the South road repaired. Finding that Fishy's oreek was wilting a kooJ o ; uama go t0 this road, with the approval of the menibur pi. the Warn wo had a fow chain;; cleared out, this b/is had a good effect, v tho road eido drain has also been extended towards the South road. (5) South road. — We have had fords made on this road at Billß* where tho culvert has worn away and at the platelayers at Winßlow where watoroourse crosses the road. • Clause I—lt1 — It waff decided; to "fie^d, a copy to tho Oolclatr'oain. lioad Board,, asking If they would agreo to trUa. It was reßOlved to write to 'the County Council, ticking that the decking on the bridge over' tho drain at the inaction of I'errsoe and Whoatstone 'roads, trhioh is nnaafe, bo removed] and tbat aide rails be erected.
