THE LICENSING COMMITTEE.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Our Licensing Committee granted an all round extension to 11 o'clock at the acnnal meeting yesterday. la the brUf report of the proceedings It is not stated what reason there was for this step. From what 1 know of the trade, I do not think tht-re has been each an overwhelming increase of business, which prevented patrons of liquor from securing a supply of their demands before 10 p.m It would be a matter of interest to many residents to know what was the reason of this retrograde movement. I was. also, surprised In not seeing an emphatio protest Bgalost the proposal by at least one member of the Committee. In a recent dlioneslon In your oolnmns on Borne aspects of the liquor traffic this gentleman proclaimed himself "as the friend of temperance work." " Had he not done much for temperance," etc., etc He mast know that the enforcement of ten o'olook as the closing Jiour is one of the leading points of the temperance party m the working of the present Aot How is it " our friend " did not protest against the extension. We like our friends to be consistent. — I am, etc, Abstainer.
