Sydney, Jane 2 Tbe first match the English football team have played m Australia took place to day againsi fifteen of New South Wales. The weather was all that could be desired, and 10,000 people were present, Including the Governor and party. The English team played a capital game, and had the best of the play throughout. The ( passing of the local team was very weak, i and tbe forwards -were slow m following • the ball. In the first spall Eagles, Seddon, ( Bumby and Stoddart secired tries, only i one of which was converted into a gaol i by Anderton. In the second spell Haslam , and Bnmby were successful m oroesing | their opponents' gaol line, and from one ' of the tries Paul kicked a gaol, id alee, ] of the local team, made a brilliant run f during the latter part of the spell, and, < passing tbe opponents' back, secured the < only try for New South Wales. Ihe hick i ac gaol was a failure. The scoring was j under the old rules, the Englishmen thus ( winning by 18 points to 2. <
