ROWS WITH THE CHINESE.
The doteutlon of the steamer Afghan m Port Philip furnished several ''Incidents" for the local papers. One day there waa a row on board, which gave the polioe In oharge some trouble to quell. I-. appears that all the orew, even to the quartermasters, are Chinese, and of oonrae bo are Ihe cooks. It appears further that the feeding of tbe paaaengers was done by oontraot by the cooks, the oaptaln having nothing to do with it. A number of paaaengers complained that a certain cook had treated them vary unfairly on the passage and whilst m harbor, and he boasted that he oould do aa he liked with them ; the captain would not Interfere ; the authorities would not allow them to land to proaeoute him ; and if they went back to China they could not punish him there, One day, m harbor, this high-handed cook went a little too far. He waa seen by half-a-d' zjn passengers to deliberately pour kerosene Into the rioe pot. They told their mates, and an angry mob set upon cooky, who waa keeping tham off with a bar of iron when the polioe interfered and resoued him. and he waa then looked up ont of harm'o way.
