Hamilton stated that an invasion of England was remote, and he mentioned that Government was doing everything that was necessary to secure the safety of the colonies and the commercial defences, bqt many more crnißers were i required to protect the merchant shipping and coaling stations. In the House of Lords, a motion by Lord Carnarvon, " that naval authorities and ship owners should co-operate for general defence," was carried. (Received May 30, 1 40 p m.) London, May 2f. Admiral Hornby declares that England requires 144 additional fast cruisers.
