An ex-policeman named Porter was arrested on a charge of attempted wife murder. It appears that the accused was keeping company with a woman at Newcastle. The deserted wife followed him from Adelaide, and he persuaded her to go to Sydney him. When they arrived here he attempted to administer prussic acid on sweetmeats. The attempt proving unsuccessful he threw his wife down and tried to force the contents of a vial down her throat.
