At a meeting held at the Baptist Tabernacle to-night to consider the gambling question, it was resolved — " (1) That this meeting has observed with great regret the rapid growth of the practice of gambling in the colony, especially amongat the younger members of the oummunity. (2) That this meeting resolves to petition the Legislature to remove the sanction of Parliament to gambling, by the introduction during the present session of Parliament of an Act repealing section 46 of the Gaming and Lotteries Aot, which makes it lawful for bhe Colonial Secretary to grant licenses to racing olabs or authority to use the totaliaator at race meetings, and repealing the section of the Gaming and Lotteries Act which sanctions Bweepstakcts on a raceoonrso." The Hospital and Charitable Aid Board have received a letter from U. W. Barley, alleging ecandalous ill-treatment of Mrs Bharpe, who cbd at tne Refugo last week, and who was the wife of Mr A.
