WAKANUI ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this Board was held on Saturday, Present — Messrs M. Bruce, Jas. Brown, Geo. Ooe, and W. T. lull. Mr M. Bruoe waa eleoted Chairman for the ensuing year. * CORRESPONDHNOB. Letters were read (1) From the Poblio Works Department, stating that Mr Ollivier had reported on the land to be taken for a road through Mr W. Jamison's property, and in view of this report the Minister does not see his way to issue the proclamation aeked for, and farther requesting the payment of £6 4s, expenses in connection with the en. quiry; (2) From Messrs White and Oo« solicitors to the Board, enclosing oopy of, statement of claim forwarded to them by Mr , David Wilsonta solioitor for alleged damages to property, caused by overflow of river and i diversion; the claim was for £26.—^t v<ajj ', resolved to reply that the Board does nqt' recognise the plains of Mr Wilson. ' - '. SOBYE?OBS' The Surveyor reported as fojlowa (— •, 1. Ooohrane's Road — The metalling of thia road, let at last meeting, has been duly completed. 2. Butteriok's Boad— The contractor for/ metalling this road has just started work,- ' 3. Station Boad — A oombined sheep and footbridge has been created over the oreek on ' this road. 4. Milton Boad— The ford on- this road through the Wakanui Creek has again be* come bad owing to the large deposit of silt. On examination of the oreek below the ford we find that the water way is considerably blocked by willows, and until it is oleared for say some 3 ohaina, there is no possibility ol making the ford good ; the maintenance man endeavored, by diminishing the width of the ford, and so causing a better current, to stop, the' depositing' of silt, but' this was bt i6 efteofc, as the water' not having a proper escape below, rose higher on 'the fqrd, and eyep game over the footbridge. The remedy ' we BUgge'pt is' the oleanjng out and widening of the oreek for gome 3 or 4 johajna be)o^ the ford. 5. Wakanui Road— Mr Harrison has Qom« plained to us of the water lying on his land just above the large culvert on this road. It would geem to us that this is oausad by the filling in of the oreek reserve, and not the fault of the oulvert, but we have arranged to take levels through in order to find the oaaso. We would suggest also that a new oulvert having conorete abutments, be put in place of tha old one, which is becoming unsound. This road from the Mill to Fern's road is greatly in want of a good ooat of metal, that portion from Milton road is the Boundary road of the Hampstead town district, whicn should be asked to contribute its share towards the work. 6. The maintenance man's diary lies on. the table. Clause 4— lt was deoided to write to the proprietor of the Canterbury Mills and the County Oounoil, drawing their attention to the dangerous state of this road, caused by the silting up of the Wakanui Greek, and asking to neve the same put in a proper state without delay. Clause s— lt was deoided that as it was rather late for metalling, to patoh up the road as required, and the Surveyors were directed to look into the matter and oom« munioate with the Town Board with regard to the control of the Boundary roads.
