ANNUAL MEETING OF RATEPAYERS.
SOUTH RAKAIA. Tbe annual meeting of ratepayers was held on Thursday, Mr O^ate. 1 occupying the chair, Only the member* of the Board and very few ratepayers were present. The Chairman read the statement of accounts for the year ending March 31at, 1888, an follows :— Balance m Bank on April let, 1887, £3905 4i 103 ; receipts— Interest, £142 103 ; small birds, £60 14* 3d ; rateß, £784 lla lOd ; Incidentals, £4 2a 7d ; new roads, £6 7s 6d ; total, £4903 11s. Expenditure — By Bakala township, £49 14s 8i; pant, £1 3s; advertising, eto , £50 14s lOd ; expenses, £62 12* 3d ; village settlement. £119 183} new roads and works, £461 6s Id ; small birds and eggs, £107 lßj3d ; rate aooount, £36 4i 8d ; Clerk's salary, £100 ; plantations, £107 4s ; maintenance £552|1s 3 1 ; fords, Ashburton County Council, £38 4s ; total, £1686 4i. Balanoe m Bank, £3213 3a 9J, cash m hand, £4 3s 31 j total, £4903 1U The aooounta were audited by Mr John Olllvler. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr MulllgaD, the balance sheet as read was adopted. A few unimportant questions were asked and answered. Mr Oxley proposed a hearty vote of thanks to the members of the Board for their services.— Seoonded by Mr Cox and oarried unanimously, A. vote of thanks to the Chairman con« eluded the meeting.
